To commemorate the 800th anniversary of St Francis of Assisi’s famous Canticle of the Creatures, the Chaplaincy Team of St Cross Catholic Primary School, one of our Trust schools, created a special St Francis Garden.
In his Canticle, St Francis wrote:
“All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Earth, our mother, who feeds us and produces various fruits with coloured flowers and herbs.”
These timeless words remind us of our responsibility to care for our common home and to cherish the beauty and abundance of God’s creation. Eight centuries later, St Francis’ message of gratitude, stewardship and respect for the natural world remains as relevant as ever.
The garden was officially opened recently, providing a peaceful and reflective space for the children of St Cross. Through this project, the Chaplaincy Team hopes to inspire pupils to deepen their appreciation of creation and to live out the values of Saint Francis in their daily lives.
