To celebrate the Feast of St Francis of Assisi on 4 October, schools across the St Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy Trust have been celebrating St Francis Week, with pupils taking part in prayer, reflection and a wide range of activities inspired by the life and teachings of St Francis.
Throughout the week, pupils have explored how they can follow his example in their everyday lives by caring for creation, showing kindness and compassion to others, living simply and becoming peacemakers in their schools and wider communities.
At St Paul’s Catholic Primary School, pupils reflected on how they could become peacemakers and created their own personal Peace Pledges, considering ways they could bring kindness, love and peace to others. Classes then brought their pledges together to create a Peace Wall, making a collective commitment to live out St Francis’ message of peace.
At St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School, the Chaplaincy Team launched a week of activities around the theme “Living simply, caring for creation, loving others and bringing peace.” Activities included making class pledges, outdoor prayer celebrating God’s creation, and a peace assembly focused on how pupils can become peacemakers.
At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School (Waltham Cross), Reception pupils learned about St Francis’ special love and care for God’s creation and made their own bird feeders to help care for local wildlife. The whole school community also came together to celebrate Mass for the Feast of St Francis, reflecting on his love for God, kindness towards others and care for creation.
Together, these celebrations have given pupils across the Trust an opportunity to reflect on the example of St Francis and consider how small acts of kindness, care and peace can make a positive difference in their schools and communities.
